Soon those college campuses will liven up with a full compliment enrollment. Of course, a few students have been on those multi-sidewalk pastures during the summer. I know some freshmen to be students, mostly athletes have been enrolled in the U. Of. I. Summer 'Bridge Program.' That's an academic transition program from high school to college for those NCAA scholarship athletes who posted a 17 or less ACT score. Never mind that hundreds of non-athlete students who scored perhaps a 26 on their ACT was told by Illinois and other schools that they were not 'good enough' to be accepted at their institution.
This philosophy is mind boggling. Many of these questionable student-athletes are absolutely embarrassing when giving a post-game interview...they can't put words together making a comprehensive sentence. Others will beat up their girlfriends, be arrested for a variety of illegal behavior and place coaches and athletic directors in uncomfortable situations explaining how and why these people were recruited.
The so-called big time universities and the NCAA cow-tow to these questionable characters for the sake of NCAA tournament and Post -Season Bowl 'paydays." However, the NCAA is a caring organization...they will bar schools from post-season tournaments if they don't dump their 'Indian Mascots.' Gee, just imagine had the NCAA had been around when we were killing many Indians during the Westward Expansion; the 'Redman' might have more than just a casino cut these days. On the other hand, I gotta believe the Seminoles of Florida have a sweet deal.
The NCAA functions much better than the United States Congress but is equally disenginous.
