Amazing American Apathy

As of Thursday February 27, 2020 it was reported that the world wide number of coronavirus cases had reached 83,910 while the highly contagious disease has caused 2,872 deaths. Currently 55-countries have confirmed coronavirus cases and experts of infectious disease warns of a high pandemic probability.

The American population is receiving mixed messages as the CDC (Center for Disease Control) warns of a likely significant outbreak of the disease in the United States and the Trump administration understates the coronavirus potential impact. It is apparent that President Trump is more concerned about falling stock market numbers versus escalating virus numbers. Attempting to appear concerned about the coronavirus, Trump appointed Vice President, Mike Pence to be the Coronavirus Czar. Pence is not qualified for the position but few of Trump's appointees have been qualified. Highly regarded immunologists, Dr. Anthony Fauci, Director of the National Institute of Allergy & Infectious Disease is the medical expert assigned to tracking the coronavirus in America. That said, Dr. Fauci must not issue any public statements without first reporting to Vice President Pence who would grant him permission to speak. Trump must control information Americans get.

Readers: I have stated in previous blogs that our once 'free' America is tumbling towards a Fascist leadership under Trump. Now you can bury your head in the sands of denial but that only makes you a fool and unpatriotic. Check off the characteristics below.

                                                  Fascist Leadership Characteristics

 1. Embraces Nationalism (Trump said, "I'm a Nationalist.")
 2. Disregard for human rights. (Trump separates illegal immigrant children from parents and holds them in cages.)
 3. Widespread sexism....a Trump staple.
 4. Control Mass Media ( Refers to media as "Fake News" and Now tells Doctor to clear virus messaging through his VP).
 5. Religion & government intertwined. (Trump has hoodwinked the Evangelicals with bogus claims.)
 6. Identify enemies as a unifying cause.(Trump claims Mexicans are thugs, rapists, murderers. Says brown-skin people from Haiti and Africa come from "shithole countries."
 7. Patriotic slogans. (Trump pontificates Make America Great Again, which is code for white superiority.)
 8. Abortion & homosexuality suppressed. (See #5)
 9. Military is glamorized (Trump has Military Parades like China, Russia, France and North Korea.)
10. Attacks all liberal views.
11. Panders to  popular religion to use as a tool to manipulate public opinion.
12. Protect Corporate Power (Trump's tax cuts)
13. Suppress Labor
14. Disrespect for intellectuals and higher education.
15. Overlook police abuse.
16. Cronyism & corruption (Numerous indictments & criminal convictions in Trump administration).
17. Fraudulent elections. (We've already had one in 2016 and were about to have another in 2020.)
18. Disparages other government officials (Trump at every opportunity has disparaged the government's Intelligence Agencies, which protect our people. He had criticized our Judicial system and judges.)

If you are a one issue voter focused on money or  right to life or the second amendment,  lots of luck having any rights and freedoms under a Fascist dictatorship.

In A Judeo-Christian Nation, Yet.

You would think, I said you would THINK that in a nation where right-wing politicians readily pontificate their desire to stop abortion, put prayer in schools, place the Ten Commandments and Nativity Scene on Court House property would have addressed the public lynching issue long ago but Old South traditions die slowly. Consider please America's history of white-mens' hate towards people of color. I dare say, if blacks had been lynching whites the anti-lynching hate crime bill would have been enacted many years ago.

This week the United States Congress passed an anti-lynching bill making lynching a 'hate crime.' Damn it now, don't think everybody is on board stopping these redneck pastime pursuits because four Republicans voted against the anti-lynching bill. I suppose they believe hooded white guys riding around in the darkness of night, burning homes and lynching blacks is a 'fun' sport rather than a 'hate' crime.

I pray one morning, I will wake hearing the voice of Rod Serling saying, "You are waking from a shadow-land nightmare called, The Twilight Zone."

Cast Aside Imagined Hurdles

There are two attitudes that are deeply rooted in my personal philosophy. First, I become immediately curious when somebody suggests something cannot be done. When I hear such a comment, I process two thoughts: Is what is said cannot be done 'worth doing' and would I care to apply my passion to get it done? Secondly, after giving my all out effort and it's over, I am capable of walking away with no regrets and without critiquing my successor; I take the attitude that I had my time, now the time blongs to another.

I believe many people avoid challengingly engagements because it's much easier to embrace pseudo reasons for abstinence. I have heard their excuses for reluctance and apathy: 1) "I cannot make a difference because in the larger scheme of things, my status is insignificant." (Some might say the superintendent is the most significant person in the school district. I will make the case that the bus driver picking up elementary kids for school is more significant because the driver is the first daily educational contact for an impressionable child). 2) "I am handicapped because of age, gender, ethnicity or minority status." (I would remind the reader that Stephen Crane was in his twenties when he wrote "The Red Badge of Courage." Ronald Reagan was in his seventies when elected President and Jackie Robinson...well, we  all know the hurdles negotiated by a focused and committed Robinson). 3) "I'm afraid I'll fail." (My friends, all that we do could fail...however, remember we accomplish in proportion what we attempt).

I would challenge all to recognize their gifts and talents and know your weaknesses. Then decide to accentuate the positive and eliminate the negatives as the song encourages.

Too Much Power In One Hand

"I'm sorry." Most of us have said those words many times. More often than not we were sincere in saying it. On the other hand, some folks struggle admitting that they made a mistake or hurt another. Personally, I am one who believes that offering an apology for a transgression is not a sign of weakness but a show of compassion and character.

Perhaps more difficult than saying "sorry" is forgiving. It was tough for me to learn to forgive and let go when a person wronged me but never said, "sorry." Not forgiving was always bad for me because the condition festered and became emotionally unhealthy. I stopped holding on to that anger years ago.

This topic has been on my mind recently as I recall comments from people released from long prison sentences after evidence proved them innocent. Often these wrongly convicted people show appreciation for the vacating of their conviction and prison release. I'm amazed that more are not bitter with angry resentment. That's powerful forgiveness. Then there is Presidential forgiveness, which comes as a pardon.  Relax now, I'm not preparing to dis on the current President and his pardons. All Presidents misuse the pardon powers...every President.

It seems many presidential pardons are more often granted to white collar criminals, who in fact were guilty and the President pardons them based upon some suspect and questionable motives. Ocassionally, those receiving a Presidential pardon will acknowledge their guilt and express some remorse and appreciation for their exoneration; not the case with former Illinois Governor, Rod Blagojevich, convicted felon. This guy is an embarrassment with his post-pardon denials of obvious criminal behavior, which put him behind bars.

I believe Presidential pardon powers need to be tossed in the garbage along with political caucuses, the Confederate Flag, bumper-stickers and aluminum baseball bats. If it is not,  Presidents will continue to abuse this unbridled power, which demoralize Americans. The pardon power should rest on the shoulders of a non-politically-appointed jury panel representing a cross section of American society. Excluded from this jury-panel are ex-cons, White Nationalists, KKK members, ministers, government officials, Wall Street people and former O. J. Simpson jury members.

A Special Opportunity Blessing

Many years, I traveled the country from Boston to San Diego to Appleton to Topeka giving presentations to athletic directors' conventions and to high school athletic families, which consisted of student-athletes, parents and coaches. My charge was the create an awareness for the need of a well thought out communication process for engagement between student athletes, their parents and school coaches, which ultimately increased the likelihood of a more positive experience for all parties. Regardless what part of this nation I found my audience, I knew they all held one thing in common: 'No youngster ever envisions failure, no mother ever gave birth to failure and no coach wanted to be seen as a failure.'

Parents want four things for their children: Love, Health, Success and Happiness. They must quickly realize that they can give unconditional love but health comes by the Grace of God while success and happiness rests on the shoulders of the individual; parents cannot make it happen for their kid.

Youngsters may be unwilling to admit it but they truly wish to be perceived as capable by their parents and have strong hope for parental validation. Teenagers do not always share total honesty about their abilities and relationship with coaches, which can create misconceptions.

Athletic coaches want to develop and sustain successful (winning) programs, however most coaches are often unwilling to be open to inquiries or questioning, which is to a great extent problematic.

This presentation entitled, "Me My Kid and Sports" was one of three presentations that I truly enjoyed sharing. Before embarking on what would be some 16-years of speaking engagements at hundreds of venues, I talked with my friend and school administrator, Robert Crowe who was accustomed to the speaking circuit seeking his advice. He told me to have a clever opening and
call to action closing...and with little time elapse between the two."

I did not seek my wife's opinion but of course, she had a suggestion also>>
She said, "Don't try to be funny and don't try to appear intelligent...Just Be Yourself."

Just a God Wink

There was Pal, Skippy, Zipper, Peggy, Sarge, GiGi, Duchess, Konigin, Rueben, Gizmo, Percy and Yodie. They have been dogs in my life. Pup companions from youth until present times. Those domesticated four-legged animals, which cause Americans to spend the bulk of the $72 billions annually on pet care. What is it that drives this love affair with those canines?

I cannot speak for others but as for me, I trace my love connection with dogs back to some unspoken understanding between a little boy and his dog. Just as adults have those moments when they need to talk and share with mates or a special confidant so does the adolescent child. While uncertain about adult or peer responses to my youthful problems, I found comfort unloading my problems on my dog. Sure I did! I told my dog about the kid up the street that was mean and unfriendly. I shared with my dog my anger and sadness over punishment from parents.

As I entered adulthood, my relationship with my pups changed somewhat. I didn't burden my dog any longer with my problems but I'd oblige with a game of fetch or take that evening walk. Many evenings while watching television I would pat and stroke my fury friend as he slept on the couch nearby. If he hurt himself running or in some other fashion he'd look up at me with a puzzled glance as if to inquire, 'Why did you let that happen.' A few tragedies I have endured with my dogs through the years. Sure I know the greater heartaches of human tragedies and I do I pray for my fellow man. Although not to be compared to man's tragedies, I nonetheless have felt the sickness and shed tears at those times when I held my old dog and felt his body go limp in my arms as I tried and tried to convince myself that 'it was time.'

Today, my dog, Yodie and me share three things: fun, white hair and old age. I try not to dwell on what lies ahead for either of us but I just enjoy our games and walks and most of all those moments when I reach my hand out and pet him as he sleeps at my side. And in those moments there's a little boy which, still stirs inside this old mind.

Best Way To Heaven?

Eighty-one years ago, I was born into a Methodists family. Back then John Wesley folks frowned on alcohol, dancing, entertainment on the Sabbath, women wearing slacks or using make-up, divorce, tattoos and some other 'stuff,' none-of-which seems to bother Methodists today. However, there are a few others things upsetting my fellow Methodist worshippers: primarily the extent to which they care to include the LGBTQ community.

As with most 'in-house religion fighting' it stems from disagreements on scripture interpretation. That said, my 'United' Methodist Church is choosing to no longer be 'United.' We're gunna split into two denominations over "fundamental differences" regarding gay marriages and LGBTQ clergy. The (1) 'traditionalists" will separate from the (2) United Methodist Church. You likely won't notice much of a ripple given the fact that there are already some 4,200 religions world wide; no earth-shattering deal adding one more denomination.

It can get rather complicated tracking the 11-groups of Jesus followers comprising the 2.1 billion Christians world wide. The eleven different sets of Christians exists because of scripture interpretation fussing over words and rituals. It is little surprise that religious differences is one of the major causes behind conflict and war. Yet every religion on the face of the earth makes the claim that 'LOVE' is a fundamental principle and anchor in their religion.  But dammit, mankind by nature is intolerate and stubbornly embraces their deep-rooted (personal) ethnocentrism. Don't rush to the dictionary for a definition> ethnocentrism is a fancy word meaning 'judging others based on your own beliefs.' Nasty behavior, which Jesus told us not to do!

I maintain that 'If' love is a foundation of all faith believers then why can't we be friends, in the name of JESUS-Christ, why can't we be accepting? Why don't we just do what He told us to do: "Love one another as I have loved you." And.....when Christ returns, let Him sort it all out for us. Why not?

That's Life

Not long ago, a young father expressed a concern to me saying he feared his four year old son would not elect to play sports. He then asked me what he could do to move the boy in that direction?

I told the anxious dad to "relax." I continued explaining to him that it's not unusual seeing more than one golfer in a family, more than one fisherman in a family and more than one coin collector in a family. I explained that the dad's interests will clearly become apparent to his son. I also offered a word of caution: "Be careful; one thing certain sport must be fun."

It is often and correctly stated that "kids say the darndest things." Well, I strongly believe that our children observe the deepest most subtle things and absorb it like a sponge. Parental behavior becomes a life-style blueprint likely to be embraced by our sons and daughters. Beyond the aforementioned subtle persuasions towards sport interests consider the impact on the child exposed to literature, the arts, entertainment, political disposition, volunteerism service, diet, interpersonal communication and a faith-based religion. Perhaps Proverbs 22:6- speaks profoundly:
"Train up a child in the way he should go, even when he is old he will not depart from it."

Even though I acknowledge my contributions and impact (positive or negative) upon my children, I have been adamant to make my children aware of the fact that I will never take credit for their successes nor assume responsibility for their failures. They are to make their own choices and commitments to accomplish that which they find rewarding and personally valuable.

Sad or Laughable? You Decide

The 1976, Republican Party's platform touted "family not government programs best secure cultural and spiritual heritages." Observed "law & order" will preserve our American values. Really? Fast forward to the reality of the 2020 Republican Party scorecard.

2015, GOP presidential candidate, Donald Trump vows to "Drain the Washington D. C. Swamp." Three years into the Trump Presidency and Administration:
     199- criminal charges
37-individuals charged with crimes, including National Security Advisor, Deputy Campaign Mgr
            and Foreign Policy Advisor
          5-convictions
          4-sentenced to prison

(Of course, the Republican Senators and Evangelicals will ignore these 'swamp-like' crimes and also the fact that their President will pardon these criminals.) Trump has told the Evangelicals that "I'm the chosen one," and by hell they believe it.

The once herald "Law & Order plank in the Republican Party has rotted away. It appears to this writer that the Mexican thugs, drug dealers, rapist and murderers that Donald Trump warned us about are not nearly the threat to the American people as is Donald Trump, his morally bankrupt GOP Senators and all his administrative cronies invited to participate in dismantling a democracy and establishing a fascist leadership.

Oh, by the way...all you Obama haters>here is Obama's record on the administrative criminal matter:
     Zero indictments
     Zero convictions
     Zero sentenced to prison

It all leaves me laughing on the outside but crying on the inside.

Those Who Pray Understand Prayer

Many years ago, my parents gave me a copy of Rush Limbaugh's book, "The Way Things Ought To Be." I suppose it was their attempt to entice me to denounce my liberal democratic ways and embrace the conservative / family values ideals of the Republican Party. I graciously accepted the book and rejected the concept. Besides, I recall my father preaching to me as a younster, "Don't let me have to tell you twice." Well, he told me in those early years that the Democratic Party took care of the poor, middle class and union workers. Since we were lower-middle class and he was a union guy and since mother preached Jesus teachings, it was a no brainer for me to be a Liberal -Democrat. I've never changed. My parents changed when they moved up a social class with greater financial stability.

My Christian belief moves me to pray daily for government leaders regardless of party affiliation.
I pray for the sick, those broken in relationships, caught in financial despair, the homeless, the grieving and those devastated with disasters. When I know names, I petition the Lord with specifics but I still ask God for comforting grace, mercy and healing for the millions of nameless who are suffering all over the earth.

As President Trump dismisses the thought and possibility that political rival, Nancy Pelosi prays for  him underscores the likelihood that Trump is completely void of a 'Born again' experience. That's unfortunate because I also pray for our President no matter that President's politics. These days I also pray for Limbaugh while he is battling lung cancer. The fact that Limbaugh is recklessly bold in defiance of conventional mores as he spews hate language, he is still a vulnerable man facing difficult treatment, pain and uncertainty. I know the angst as I've kept vigils on loved ones as I held their hands as they passed from this life.

Now, I answer your likely question: 'How can you pray for the likes of a Donald Trump and Rush Limbaugh?' Well, my Lord was ridiculed and beaten as He died.  Yet before dying He asked and prayed that His murderers be forgiven. I say that I'm a Christian...Is not a Christian one who aspires to be Christlike?

Final comment: As Rush fights this terrible cancer disease, he continues to tell us 'How Things Ought To Be." I'll give him credit for one thing: He pushes the button of many angry white people who think whites 'ought to be' superior to darker skin shades. Actually, it was easy for Rush since the superior attitude of whites is one of our nation's greatest historical traits.

Humble To Say The Least.

My, My, MY, how the times does fly! Don't remember a thing about that February18th day 1939, when I made my debut. Actually, my first recollection of this 81-year journey is my mother potty-training me by having me pee in a Coke bottle. I suppose that's how my competitive, hit-the-target spirit began. I do know to this day I have the urge to 'Go' when seeing a Coke bottle; I drink Pepsi.

Goodness, I was blessed with great parents who showed me love while explaining the meaning of words; words like> 'No, Respect, Curfew and Sorry.' Yes, there was a village that impacted my adolescent years of development. I became somewhat skilled at basketball and baseball but not good enough to cause my parents to make me believe that the sun popped out of my butt giving light to the world. I had coaches who mentored me in ways that allowed me to connect the dots of personal commitment, dedication, teamwork and how they would be applicable in life's challenges.

I met a 13-year old girl who would be next to me for seven years before she became my wife of now nearly sixty-years. She has been my best friend. She readily packed and moved with children into six different communities as she supported her husband's coaching passion. Many of those 37-years she found herself sitting in bleachers embracing the cheers and ignoring the critics while preparing team meals and laundering team uniforms. Funny but true, I more easily recall the lessons from defeat than the celebrations in victory, which seems to be the make-up of the competitor.

Today as I pass by the many photos, plaques and awards that hang on my office walls, I recall relationships with assistants who joined in ownership to causes and the hundreds and hundreds of athletes who trusted me...I shall always love them for such loyalty.

With the aforementioned so wonderful, I can only state that the blessings of children (their spouses), grandchildren (their spouses) and great-grandchildren put the icing on this old man's birthday cake.
I thank my Lord many times throughout each day. I am reminded of a quote from the late St. Louis Cardinals' baseball broadcaster, Jack Buck, which applies to me, "If one day I should be fortunate enough to meet my God, I have but one question to ask of Him: "Why were you so good to me?"

I believe I'll take my sweetheart out for dinner tonight...of course, I know, The Time Will Fly.

Enough's Enough!

This age of 'serve-yourself' needs to die a quick death! I'm fed up with paying good money to do another's job. I have no choice but to pump my own gas ⛽️ or otherwise sell my auto and take the bus. I find myself constantly declining store clerks standing idly by self checkout lanes at Walmart, Target and Sam's stores asking me if I'd like to check myself out. I politely say, "Since I don't work here I prefer not to scan the merchandise I gathered, bag it and operate the payment machine." To hell with that philosophy!

I recently discovered that movie theaters no longer have ushers. What is going on?!
I blame my aging-current-events-ignorance on my children. They could have mentioned that Movie Theater ushers have vanished from the American entertainment landscape. Look, I have not been to the movie theater in years. It's not that I'm a recluse, I simply prefer other forms of entertainment, i.e. Televised sporting events, live sporting events, ocassional concerts and television movies, fake news and reports of 'Tubby Trump Tweets.'

A recent rainy Florida panhandle day prompted my wife to ask if I'd take her and a friend to the local movie theater to see the movie, 'Little Women.' I said, I'd be happy to so, but requested my wife ask the friend if her husband would like to go along and see another movie, '1917.' And that's where the issues arose.

Two and a half hours later the husbands and wives met in the lobby and headed towards our auto to go home where we belong. We began comparing movie experiences. If you're looking for movie reviews suffice to say both flicks were thought to Be Much Overrated! If you wish a movie attendance synopsis from four people with a combined age of> 322-years then read further.

The old gents walked into a nearly empty theater and found two seats near an exit close to urinals...
a wise customary practice beginning about the time when old farts begin drawing social security; its termed etiquette security. Heavens, nobody told me theaters now sell assigned-seating tickets! Where the hell are the ushers? You guessed, we were asked to move from our seats just about the time 20-minutes of coming attractions ended. (If there's a next time I go to the theater, I shall remember the posted movie start time includes  coming attractions).

Lo' n behold the wives were asked to move from their seats three times and one of them fell asleep during the coming attractions.  Lesson learned: Stay home in your more comfortable assigned seat, 15-feet from a commode, thirty feet from less expensive refreshments and TV re-runs of 'Golden Girls' and 'I Luv Lucy.'

No American Showing

I have this idea for a movie. Well, it's really not an original idea but it has potential. Let me explain:

Remember the intriguing and complicated 1973 movie, 'The Sting,' which was set in 1936, when two professional swindlers, Robert Redford (Johnny Hooker) and Paul Newman (Henry Gondorff) conned mob boss Robert Shaw (Lonnegan) in an elaborate horse betting scheme, which caused the mobster to bet on the wrong horse and lose a great sum of money? Great movie with humor.

My movie is another 'Sting' type movie entitled, 'The American Affair.' It will depict a time in the early 21st Century when the United States President, a sick, ignorant and self-aggrandizing narcissist teamed with a U.S. Senator and the Nation's Attorney General to pull-off a monumental hornswoggling fraudulent scheme victimizing an entire nation of people. These men of ignoble actions and motives possessed arousing moral distaste and contempt for their fellow man. Motivated by controlling power, greed and racial superiority they wove a clever large scale systematic plan to meet their objectives.

Ironically, the movie, 'The American Affair' will be written, filmed and produced in Great Britain the mother country of the former Democratic Free Nation, which in the end becomes a fascist state after the dismantling of the free press, voting rights, intelligence agencies, the judicial process and its constitutional underpinnings of a government's checks and balances on leadership.
Great movie with sadness.

Be That As It Is

For our nearly sixty married years, my wife has enjoyed her role as my admonisher and I have benefitted from that censorship. Don't assume much from that comment beyond the fact that I appreciate my wife's perception because she often views matters differently than do I and I prefer not having 'Yes' people in my corral of confidants. To illustrate further, I always insisted that my assistant coaches challenge my thinking, coaching preparation and approach because it gave them 'ownership' to in the mission. This is not to be confused with 'second-guessing,' which I would not tolerate.

My wife often reads my Facebook blogs and many times I read them to her before posting just to get a reaction. You know the saying, 'Everybody's got their own opinion and you know I surely got mine.'
Occasionally, I'll tweak a blog based on my wife's comments but more often I just push ahead with the posting. I said, I appreciate her opinion; I did not say I embrace it.

Recently, she offered an unsolicited opinion saying, "I think you anger too many people with political blogs." I countered asking, "Do you think others just might anger me or state something I believe is wrong and I wish to offer another slant.?" "Well she said, many of our friends are Trump supporters and you are always getting into verbal exchanges about him; you may lose some friends." I ended our debate explaining, "If I lose a friend over that it was a shallow-anchored friendship and one I didn't need."

My wife started to walk into another room but turned around and said, "You surely are head-strong."
I let the comment to be the final words on the topic. My position on the matter is simple>>>

Gotta Get Mine!

It appears that there is a not so subtle growing sickness in our country. No, I'm not speaking of the Coronavirus. I offer instead this insatiable appetite called, 'Ambition for Self.' This self-proclaimed Christian nation seems to ignore the teachings of Christ who preached selflessness and service to others. The nature of our very being is 'What's in it for me?' 'How can I gain more money and (power) status?' We may give lip-kudos to Mother Teresa or Jimmy Carter for service to mankind, but you never see a T-shirt with the slogan, "I Wanna Be Like Jimmy."

Our heroes are overpaid professional athletes, entertainers and the business wealthy. Certainly there is absolutely nothing wrong or dirty about success as measured in terms of finances or prestige unless there is an absence of personal morals and/or service to others.

I am reminded of that moment when our American President Donald Trump pushed aside the Prime Minister of Montenegro to place 'himself' center-front in a photo op at the 2017, NATO meeting. Not a proud American moment but a significant sign of things to come, which seems to have given impetus for others to emulate. I no longer buy the politicians' poppycock-'BS,' America First because it is obvious we are a nation of folks heading towards damnation with this glutinous, 'Me First.'

Perhaps this writer is a naive incurable romantic who puts too much stock in the philosophy that the 'Happinest people on earth are those people who have a passion for their occupation and find time to serve their serve those who may be less fortunate.'

Enjoy Each, Any & All Moments

When I awoke this morning my wife of nearly sixty years said, "WOW! Do you realize in less than two weeks you'll turn 81." I immediately thought 💭  of the many 'senior moments' I'm having and I wish to share those with you readers before sharing our complete morning chat.

Senior Moments:
I frequently find myself television channel-surfing as I look for John Wayne movies. I lose my eyeglasses daily and when I eventually find them, I'm puzzled wondering what was I doing in THAT room where I left the glasses? I used to go to restaurants with concern for scenery location; these senior years I look for the restroom location. I can honestly confess that I answer my cell phone at least once a day when I hear a phone ring on the television. My daily encounter with food temptations  immediately calls to mind my most recent blood-sugar-level-reading. These my senior years, I am convinced that I have more Doctors in my life than friends. And finally, I recently realized my 81-years calculates to 567-dog life years.

Now> Back to that morning exchange with my wife, Gerry. She continued and asked, "What would you like for your upcoming 81st birthday?" I answered, "The next day after."

Senior moments do not trouble me in the least...I tend to forget them quickly!

Our Focus Run Amok

I recently read that Preacher Franklin Graham was offended by the sensuous gyrations of the two scantily attired women performing at the NFL Super Bowl half-time. Graham says that, "Our moral desency is disappearing right before our eyes." (Personally, I found the dancing in poor taste but I have not been a fan of the Super Bowl half-time show since they stopped having people who could sing. Our music appreciation has gone to hell, but that's another blog.)

Graham thinks that these exhibitions underscore the "sexual exploitation of women." This proclamation from a 'man of God' who vehemently supports Donald J. Trump, a vulgar individual who boasts about sexually assaulting women by grabbing their vaginas, paid hush money to a porn star hoping to cover up their consenual sex, endorsed a child molester for Congress and has some 18-women who accuse him of sexual assault. This outrage from Reverend Graham about dancers at a half-time football game but overlooks and gives a pass to a sexual predator.

Preachers like Graham should be a hellava lot more concerned with other questionable social activities and displays. Checkout the 'goings on' in the Santa Rosa County School District (Florida).
The number of students having sex on school grounds is becoming "explosive" according to the Superintendent. Students are being caught on campus "having intercourse, multiple oral sex and inappropriate touching." The problem is not limited to high school age kids but has been identified as young as fifth graders. Of course, like many 21st Century American parents, the fault is not at home. Parents claim they are "locking down" kids so the only place they can have sex is at school.

Rev. Graham: Rome is burning! Some of our elementary age children are engaging in sex during recess! And to my dear Methodist Church hierarchy: While you say nothing about the sexual vulgarity of our President, you really decided to debate 'how' to minister to LGBTQ communities?   Shame on that kind of hypocrisy!  We Christians need to step back and re-think our priorities.

Once Upon A Time In Wonderland

Once upon a time there was a magical Wonderland called America. It's free and proud people boasted about the rewards of hard work, loyalty, foundations of fairness, honesty and the protective anchors of rules embodied in a document called The Constitution designed and written by revered Founding Fathers who followed the principles of Judeo-Christian values.

Over the 244-years of the existence of this Wonderland-country many men and women gave the ultimate sacrifice protecting these grand and marvelous values. Other military service-warriors to this grand nation were physically wounded and maimed as they fought to defend the homeland and its beliefs. One such warrior returned from from his honorable mission with such physical injuries. He was a scholar, a decorated war officer and diplomat who became a White House National Security Officer. One day, this man of distinct honor and valor saw a wrong committed by the leader of Wonderland and testified as such before an impeachment hearing of the leader.

Although, there would be agreement that this leader of the great nation was guilty of wrong-doing, he would be acquitted. Within days after the acquittal the leader would fire the military warrior and the great Wonderland of weak-unprincipled officials would say nothing. And those millions of Judeo-Christians would remain alarmingly silent for they were too busy judging rightful freedoms of others in Wonderland. These pseudo-Christians of America embrace the notion that their vindictive leader was chosen by their God...can we hear a chant USA, USA, USA. Shall we sing God Bless America and pretend that the God of Creation speaks only to a those in Wonderland?

Donald Trump Dismisses Prayer and Faith

Here's what we know: House Speaker, Nancy Pelosi is Roman Catholic. She faithfully practices her religion as documented in her church attendance and public testimony. Senator, Mitt Romney is a devout Mormon. He also practices his faith and like JFK had to defend his religion as a Presidential Candidate in 2012; this too is doncumented. Donald J. Trump is also on public record with documented religion attitudes. Trump does not attend church. Trump has openly stated that he has never asked God for 'forgiveness' but would if he committed any transgressions. Trump has publicly stated that his favorite Bibilical verse is "personal." It may be 'Two' Corinthians.

Okay, before Thursday, February 6th, 2020 the aforementioned is indisputable. Well, indisputable to anybody Paying attention and with the ability to read and comprehend. On February 6th, President Trump attacked House Speaker Pelosi (at a prayer breakfast) calling her a "corrupt person" and calling into doubt her religious faith as he said she lies when saying she prays for the President. Trump also stated that Senator Romney "used his faith as a crutch" when voting to convict Trump in the Senate impeachment trial.

Note: This writer just re-read the two previous paragraphs. The reader might wish to do the same.

I continue... Donald Trump has targeted Pelosi bringing into questions her statement that she prays for the President and the country. A true brother in faith does not divide the house with judging others. God commands unity among believers. Christ said, we are called as believers to live in  harmony. The Bible also says that a double-minded man is unstable in all ways.

I personally pray through my day at various moments predicated on many factors. I always set aside a morning and evening time to have personal prayer. In those moments I petition my Lord's mercy and comforting grace for the sick, the homeless, the hungry, those with relationship and financial problems. I pray for each member of my family. I pray for our first responders, military, elected officials (yes and for Pres. Trump). I pray for those facing surgeries and treatments, those keeping a vigil and those who mourn. If I pray such prayers, I dare not doubt that Pelosi does the same. Of course, Trump does and yet many of my Christian brothers and sisters support such decisive-judging hatefulness. Shameful.

President Trump dare suggests that Senator Romney uses his religion as a "crutch." The audacity of Trump to accuse Romney of 'using' his faith to come to a decision is laughable considering it comes from a man who while he has pastors laying hands on him praying in a televised event opens his eyes while others pray, looks at the camera and smiles. It is blasphemy!

Please Excuse me while I stop to ask God to forgive my anger, after which I shall pray for our President and our Nation.

"Birds of a Feather"

I've never met conservative radio personality, Rush Limbaugh but I have read excerpts of his books and heard segments of his daily radio program through the years. I do not hate the man but I have long despised his boastful, arrogant, mean spirited and divisive hate filled rhetoric. Likewise, I perceive him as extremely bigoted.

Limbaugh recently announced that he has stage-4 lung cancer, which I was sad to hear. He will be one of many for whom I petition my Lord in prayer daily when I ask that Jesus be with those who are facing health issues requiring treatment and healing. I always pray for Christ's comforting grace on those who mourn, on those who keep vigils, on those who struggle with financial and relationship issues and those who face surgeries. I don't exclude the people who look or think differently than me.

Recently, President Trump awarded Rush Limbaugh with the Presidential Medal of Freedom. I question such a choice. Limbaugh's professional life has been wrapped in ugly verbal and often times unproven accusations as he attempts to advance the Republican Party agenda. Limbaugh and Trump share many personality similarities anchored in divisive hate-rhetoric, which I suspect motivated Trump's selection of Limbaugh to receive this honor. Consider a few past recipients: Rosa Parks (Civil Rights Activists), Elie Wiesel (Holocaust survivor) and Neil Armstrong ( First Astronaut to step on the moon). Limbaugh on the other hand, called President Obama, "The Magic Negro." Limbaugh accused Michael J. Fox of "faking his Parkinson" and told an African-American woman to "Take the bone out of your nose and call me back."  There was also the young Georgetown University law student, Sandra Fluke who spoke to Congress and pitched for contraceptives for high school and college students without co-pay. Limbaugh called her out casting her as a "slut" and a "prostitute" and requesting video of her having sex if "we pay for your contraceptives." Of course,  these sentiments and ugly language is so very Trump-like!

The award to Limbaugh will  open the door for future Presidents to award this medal to biased political-hacks, which cheapens the significance of the honor. Who shall be the next, Sean Hannity, Bill O'Reilly or perhaps Rachel Maddow or Chris Cuomo when a Democratic President wishes to hand out meaningless awards.

Think Before Acting

Back in the day, as 'they' say I recall my maternal grandfather saying to his wife, "Mary that confounded telephone that you're always on is the Devil's tool begging for gossip." I like that word, 'GOSSIP.' It means unconstrained conversation or reports about other people, typically involving details that are NOT confirmed as being true. Such messages are often derogatory.

Grandpa E. V. Bennett would be blown away with the incredible gossip tool that the Devil drives today...it's called the Internet Facebook post. The telephone chin-wagging, gum-chomping and lip-lying has given way to the more sophisticated-instrument of modern technology, which produces even more devastating and evil falsehoods...'The Post.'

Last year, a friend of mine posted on Facebook that actress Julia Roberts said, "Michelle Obama is not fit to clean my bathroom." I fact checked that as I often do with off the wall posts. It was FALSE.
I told my friend this fact and he said, "I don't care if what I post is false. If I like how it sounds! I post it. Unfriend me if you don't like it." So I did.

Just recently, I read the following two completely false Facebook posts. 1) 'The Trump family is not allowed to hold any charity in the State of New York because they had previously stolen money from a kids' cancer charity.' THAT IS FALSE. THAT IS HATEFUL AND SICK. 2) Another Facebook post in 2016, which was produced by Russia: "Hillary Clinton stay away from Texas!" The post showed a doctored photo of Hillary shaking hands with Osama bin Laden. This was an attempt to link Clinton to perceived evil Muslims and the 911-mastermind killer. The Post was a UGLY INFERENCE  TOWARDS THE MUSLIM FAITH and PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE CLINTON AND IT WAS FALSE. Obviously, the individual posting it did not fact check but just 'liked' the lie.

A plethora of these evil, lying and atrocious posts appear daily on Facebook. A person with any kind of sense and average intelligence should think twice before believing such crap and re-posting. Just yesterday, I did post a message claiming that approximately 58% of Republicans think education has a negative impact on our nation. Before posting that, I double checked its validity and found that the post was in fact TRUE.

MY SUGGESTION IS RESEARCH AND VALIDATE BEFORE POSTING! However, that takes time and renders the possibility that your bucket will be empty much like your brain if you refuse to fill that brain with researched-confirmed information.

Pay Attention People. Pay Attention!

Last week, I suggested in a blog that 'America's Storm Clouds are Gathering' as the White race moves closer to becoming this country's race minority. This will happen near the year 2045. At that time the elements may be ripe for violent confrontations in our streets; if not sooner.

I'm sure many who read my words took exceptions to my opinion believing I was an alarmist and exaggerating with over-the-top statements. Well, that is indeed a possibility. And then again..........
A Montana Republican lawmaker, State Rep. Rodney Garcia recently stated: "The United States Constitution calls for people who identify as 'socialist' to be jailed or shot."

The core of Garcia's feelings is simple to conclude. If you do not identify with his political views you are the enemy of the nation. I'm sure Mr. Garcia is not a stupid man and I am equally sure that Mr. Garcia is a profoundly prejudice man. Prejudice towards people who worship differently than him and people who 'look' differently from him. Yet, we can be sure that Garcia is in church for weekly show and go worship. He is surely our new band of Evangelicals.

Garcia is one of millions who embrace such hateful notions. Right behind Donald Trump who believes he can "Shoot somebody in the middle of 5th Avenue not lose a single voter," and encourages his rally supporters to confront hecklers with the charge to>"Take them out," (meaning violently) "I'll pay your lawyers' fee," This President encourages the thinking of people like Rodney Garcia.

Next week, we may be called upon to take out Methodists.

Lets Back The Pres. On This Sentiment

I wish to join President Trump with his congratulatory sentiments. CONGRATULATIONS to the great State of Kansas on the Kansas City Chiefs' Super Bowl Championship!

Say what??? Kansas City ain't in Kansas? Well, where is it? In Missouri?

Get your Sharpie Pen out and change that on the map, Mr. President.

America's Storm Clouds Gathering

I have great concern for my grandchildren and great grandchildren against the political and social backdrop in this beloved America. The growing intolerance for one another in our land of free is picking up momentum.

The relationship between law enforcement and many Americans becomes more frayed each day especially in our cities. The very stability of America's democracy grows weaker and more suspect daily. The finger-pointing ugly political discourse ignores leadership responsibility and instead nullifies our better angels.

Seemingly there was a backlash to the election of America's first black man, Barrack Obama as this nation with the help of Russian interference, elected Donald Trump who offered angry rhetoric, ugly bullying and unmasked prejudices toward all ethnicities. Trump's voice gave revitalized energies to hate groups, i.e., White Nationalist and the KKK. That comment is not arguable.

The scars of America's only previous civil war was exposed when many Southerners recently fought back against the removal of Confederate statues and the Confederate flags from public places. This only suggests that the unresolved issues of race-relations lie beneath America's thin social skin.

Many will dismiss this writer's notion that another civil war looms in America's future. Those folks have that head-in-the-sand embracing naivety. Their unsophisticated thinking and lack of wisdom  along with poor judgment gives even greater for concern.

In the year 2045, America's racial population percentages will have shifted and 'white' people will be in the racial minority for only the second time since the Pilgrims met the Native American Indians. This will occur at a time when America's citizenry is equipped with more military assault weapons than ever and an unfortunate sick itch to pull triggers.

Obviously, my journey will have ended long before the aforementioned happens. Meanwhile, I shall continue to petition my Lord in prayer to bring our country back to that pride in our melting pot of, which we once boasted and the Christian love we proclaim.

Perhaps this nation just needs calmness and a drop of love from each.
