Can't Accomplish On Own Merit?

It just might be my biggest 'pet peeve.' I am disgusted with those who feel a need to point towards others to address their own hopes, wishes and subsequent successes. I recall once when a coaching colleague of mine went to the school administration complaining that he had only one free period a day and the basketball coach (Mel) had two free periods each day. He said, "It should be equal." The next school year the administration made things equal...they took away one of my planning periods.

I believe there is an inherent weakness in an individual who cannot elevate his fortunes through self-effort. I find a pathetic argument from the lips of politicians who, in dodging a delivery of an honest answer invoke the name of a previous politician suggesting, "Well, what about so-and-so?" Give me a break! When did people get anywhere bitching and pointing fingers? Like my father told me, "Hey, boy if you don't like your circumstance then do something to change it to your liking. He meant 'look within.'

I suspect everybody could point to something in the past that handicapped them in some manner. In this nation we have seen various groups suffer from discrimination of some degree. The Jews, the Irish, the Hispanics, the Blacks, the Catholics, the Mormons, the Polish, the Muslims, etc. We also have groups that perceive discrimination, which in turn serves as their crutch.

As a high school mentor, I wanted to win basketball games but more importantly, I wanted my guys to learn sacrifice, dedication, commitment and develop traits that would help them succeed in life.  I recall one of my African-American basketball players adamantly complaining after we lost a game in an all white community. His contention was 'an all Black basketball team is going to be cheated playing in a White town with White referees.' I scolded that kid hard explaining that WE missed opportunities that could have secured the victory. I made the point he was grabbing a crutch and if he continued to do that he would never live the big life. I explained that it was up to him to take care of business so he could one day have the job he wanted, vacation with family, live where he wanted, shop and eat where he wanted and embrace all that was available in life. I made it clear that he had the ability to achieve and how it is a loser who reaches for crutches and excuses. We ALL have something to overcome. Sure, I understand some have a deeper hole but it serves no good purpose to focus on others thus emphasizing our negative circumstances.

I have many former basketball ball players who live daily successes with family and loved ones. They have solid employment. Their respective circumstances thrill their old Coach. They are proud men and I am proud of them.

Just Who Is Jesus?

Author Unknown...

There are 3-good arguments that Jesus was 'Black.'
1) He called everybody brother.
2) He liked Gospel
3) He did not get a fair trial.

But then there are 3-good arguments that Jesus was 'Jewish.'
1) He went into his father's business.
2) He lived at home until he was 33.
3) He was sure his mother was a virgin and his mother was sure He was God.

But then there are 3-good arguments that Jesus was an 'Italian.'
1) He talked with his hands.
2) He had wine with his meals.
3) He used olive oil.

But then there are 3-good arguments that Jesus was a 'Californian.'
1) He never cut his hair.
2) He walked around barefoot.
3) He started a new religion.

But then there are 3-equally good arguments that Jesus was an 'American Indian.'
1) He was at peace with nature.
2) He ate a lot of fish.
3) He talked about the Great Spirit.

But then there was the good arguments that Jesus was 'Irish.'
1) He never married.
2) He was always telling stories.
3) He loved green pastures.

But the most compelling 3-arguments was that Jesus was a woman.
1) He fed a crown a moment's notice with virtually no available food.
2) He kept trying to get a message across to a bunch of men who just didn't get it.
3) And even when dead, he got up because there was still work to do.

Can I get an Amen?

Two Winners; Different Personas

It was the spring of 1976. My Edwardsville basketball 'Tigers' had broken a 20-year State Tournament appearance drought. Our club advanced to the Sweet 16 where we lost to Marion.
Indiana Coach Bob Knight beat John Wooden's UCLA squad in the first game of the Final Four and went on the capture the Title.

I was attending a Midwest (St. Louis) 7-Up Coaches Clinic with some six hundred high school and colleges coaches at the Marriott (Lambert Airport) Hotel. Two of the Clinician Speakers were Bob Knight and John Wooden. As I continue with this recount story, I think the message is perhaps a simple one summed up in the old adage, "There's more than one way to skin a cat." That said, there's more than one way and personality to 'coach.' One would be hard-pressed to find two coaches with more pronounced opposite personalities or coaching styles than Bob Knight and John Wooden, yet both have stellar coaching credentials and successes.
It was during a 'break' between presentations when I Wonder out of the auditorium and noticed a long line of coaches waiting to purchase an autographed copies of Woods's book, 'Pyramid of Success.'
'Saint John' as many of his contemporaries called him was seated at a table signing copies. After several minutes, I saw Coach Wooden stand asking for the remaining coaches waiting in line to give them his attention. As silence settled in, the calm, congenial and classy Wooden spoke, "Coaches, I am humbled by your interest in my book and I will return to this table and continue our visiting but right now one of our colleagues is about to give his presentation. It would be unprofessional if me to keep you from joining me in the auditorium to listen to Coach  Knight. And with that Wooden walked towards the auditorium doors. I walked in,as Knight was being introduced by Clinic Director Bob Murray. As Knight positioned himself at the podium a bevvy news photographers scurried about attempting to get their best photo of the Coach whose Indiana team just won the NCAA Championship. Knight slowly walked out from behind the microphone and 'flipped off' one photographer saying, "If you're with SI, this is for you." I suppose he had some ongoing tift with the magazine.

Different strokes for different Coaches.

Sure Would Like To Know

Recently an individual rather angry with my blog post said, "You think you've got all the answers." Immediately, I thought, boy that comment could not be farther from the truth. There are numerous things and circumstances for which I seek answers and here are just a few:

 1. Was Lee Harvey Oswald a lone assassin or part of a larger conspiracy?
 2. What is the true origin of baseball?
 3. What was Ike Turner's I Q?
 4. What thoughts go through Melanie Trump's mind when being intimate with her husband?
 5. What was behind Jim Lowe's 'Green Door' and what 'Thing' did Phil Harris find on the beach?
 6. Why in old age do I feel like the morning after the night before, but I didn't go anywhere?
 7. Why has nobody invented a golf ball that floats?
 8. What's the difference between crispy & extra crispy and unleaded & super unleaded?
 9. Has it ever been verified that 'There's no fool like an old fool?'
10. Why do we sit down front at a concert but in the back at church.
11. Which venue is best for 'People Watching,' The Mall or a Hotel Lobby?
12. Why do old ladies hold up a checkout lane searching the bottom of huge purses for exact change?
13. Is Franklin Graham the antithesis of Billy Graham just to disprove the old saying, "The Apple
Does Not Fall Far From The Tree?"
14. Why was God so good to me?

You know, perhaps that fella that suggested I'm a 'know it all' is on to something. I just remembered a dear friend of mine, once sent me a greeting card on no particular occasion, which read:
"Those Of You Who Think You Know It All, Irritate Those Of Us Who Do."

Hear The Message

Yesterday, I was coming out of the shopping mall when a Decatur basketball fan stopped me and asked if I had been watching the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament. I told him that I had and then he pursued to get my insight on thoughts about Michigan State coach, Tom Izzo openly screaming at one of his players during a time out. Again, I answered in the affirmative. Naturally, the gent wanted my 'take.'

I attempted to answer the fan's question not in behalf of Izzo but from my personal perspective as a former player and coach. Successful coaches build a cohesiveness similar to a family. That means emotions are intense and run the wide spectrum. We laugh together, cry together and embrace one another in good times and bad times. Yes, we can even yell in anger. Now, that said, I did not like to 'dress down' my guys in public. Don't mistake that comment. I got after players in the arena and sometimes that 'get-after' was extremely strong but while doing so my body language did not match my actual language. Therefore, everybody saved face. I told players, 'Listen to the message and don't get caught up in the animation or tone.

My philosophy on the subject is this> I never really dressed down my reserves but I did my starters because I felt the starters earned that privilege. Funny how every player wanted to be a starter. Do you suppose they wanted more attention from me?

I'm For The Birds

As an East St. Louis high school alumni, I was happy to see my old alma mater win the IHSA Boys' Basketball 3-A Championship. Of course, when I coached basketball against the Flyers, I enjoyed those times my clubs beat the Orange & Blue. Four years playing baseball and three basketball seasons playing  for the Illinois State 'Redbirds,' I toiled with a passion and enjoyed it all. Once I left East Side and Illinois State, I did not 'follow' those teams as a fan and even though I'm an Illinois native, I could care less about the fortunes of the University of Illinois.

When it comes to wearing the 'fans' cap, I've only been a die hard fan of the St. Louis Cardinals. Growing up in East St. Louis in the 1940's & '50's offered a limited fan choice. We had two baseball teams: The Browns & The Birds. ( The Brownies struggled and eventually moved to Baltimore). For a brief period, young boys my age could become NBA fans following the St. Louis Hawks with stars like Bob Pettit, Cliff Hagen, Alex Hannum and 'Easy Ed' McCauley. But the Hawks time in St. Louis was short lived as the 'white' fan base struggled supporting the infusion of black players. Owner Ben Kerner pulled the plug and St. Louis' loss was Atlanta's gain. Of course the Rams story was more complex but resulted in the same end...no pro football for St. Louis. I was gone from the Metro-East area about the time the 'Blues' came to town therefore my sports' love affair was singular...Redbirds!

This week marks the beginning of the Major League Baseball, season and this old man can once again become that 'kid' who will angst with ever pitch. I will close my eyes during the National  Anthem and remember moments with my dad who first introduced me to that 'game.' I will recall sitting with brothers Tom and Marty as Bob Gibson finished off the Yanks in game seven of the 1964 World Series. I recall that May day sitting on the first base side at Sportsman Park when 'The Man' hit five home runs in a double header. I will root for high priced overpaid ball players who stand on the shoulders of my heroes, Musial, Marion, Martin, Medwick, Moore, Slaughter, Kurowski, Munger, Pollit, Rice, Javier, Schoendiest and Brecheen.

Yep! This is the ONLY season and the Cardinals are the ONLY team that will permit me to be that person filled with excessive and single-minded zeal known as... 'The Fanatic.'           PLAY BALL!

OMG

Do you ever take a step back and re-evaluate an other's comment? More importantly, do you re-examine comments made by elected officials and people in our nation's government? If you do, you are likely frightened after you stop laughing.

Let's examine two statements recently made by a United States Senator and a United States Cabinet Member: Senator Lindsay Graham, a long time friend of the late Senator John McCain was recently asked by a reporter his thoughts about President Trump's on-going bashing and criticism of McCain.
Graham answered, "The President's comments hurt him (Trump) more than McCain." Now, people  give that thought for a moment. That's what I thought, you understand that once a person is DEAD that person is exempt from any kind of hurt or pain. Of course, Lindsey 'Spineless' Graham casually dismisses the hurtful pain felt by John McCain's loved ones with such attacks upon their beloved, husband and father.  In the name of decency, what kind of man speaks so negatively about the dead? McCain cannot defend himself. Graham has hung around Trump so long his empathy filter is clogged.

Then we have the statement by Secretary of State Michael Pompeo who suggested, Perhaps Trump was sent by God to save the Jewish people from Iran. Oh My God! Really? Just what we need another politician speaking for God.

You know, the 'thought' has crossed this writer's mind that Trump 'could' be the Anti-Christ...ah but I  stifle the urge to make such a proclamation.

It Is What He Said

About the same time in history that the American 'Founding Fathers' were drafting the United States
Constitution and laying frame work for governing people, a fella by the name of Alexander Cummings invented the first 'flush-toilet.' With apologies to the Thomas Crapper Fan Club, I'm sorry if this 'crap' is confusing but as Albert Einstein said, "Never memorize something you can look up."

My point is this: I would imagine that our Founding Fathers never envision taking a 'poop' indoors. That said, how could they possibly envision a deranged mad man sitting in the seat of our government's 'Executive Branch.' Well, fact of the matter in 1967, the 89th Congress adopted the 25th Amendment, which put in place a process to remove a 'Presidential 'nut job' from the Oval Office.

Okay, that said, we need a 28th Amendment ratified. That's right! The last Amendment (27th) said no law could increase or decrease the salary of Congress until the next term (You knew it would have something to do with 'feeding at the trough'). I suggest that the 25th Amendment (removing a crazy man from the Presidency) will always remain impotent until we have CONGRESSIONAL  TERM LIMITS. If we had Congressional term limits, those serving in Congress would have more back-bone to serve the good for people rather than their personal wealth. We could name this 28th Amendment  'The do-right Amendment.' Who said you can't legislate morality?

Now, before Trump supporters go off on me about suggesting our President is unfit for office, please understand that I am simply taking the information from the guy who is sleeping with President Trump's White House Counsel. It was Kellyanne Conway's husband, George (a staunch Republican Conservative) who said our President is "unfit." I would think that's a good resource.

Hats Off To President Trump

President Donald Trump has made it official and taken the 'ball' away from Attorney General Barr, the Department of Justic and all other parties when he stated yesterday that he (Trump) wishes for Special Counsel Robert Mueller's 'report' to be MADE PUBLIC. Since the President is THE BOSS OF our justice system, his word is final. No more debate!

This is significant.  The President has maintained all along that the investigation  is nothing more than a witch hunt hoax. I am now beginning to believe the President because he is calling the bluff. Let's all get behind President Trump in his decision and make sure he has his way...The Mueller Report Will Be Made Public. Let's not let any voices prevail other that of Trump's on this issue.

It's imperative that we take a man by his words; especially when those words come from the lips of our President and spoken publicly.

Words Tell A Story

A recent poll of indicates that nearly 70% of White church-going Evangelicals support President Donald Trump. That means this White Evangelical church-going writer is in the 30% minority.
My reasoning for not supporting this President is anchored in the words of two men; Donald Trump and Jesus Christ.

They said...

D T> "I go after people who do me wrong. I get even with people."
J C>. "Do good to those who hate you."

D T>. "I will build a wall on the Southern Border and Mexico will pay for it."
J  C>. "Love your neighbor as yourself."

D T>. "If I win, people coming here from Syria are going back."
J C>.  "I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to
drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in."

D T>. "My I Q is one of the highest and you know it. Don't feel stupid or insecure, it's not your
           fault."
J C>.   "Whoever exalts himself will be humbled and whoever humbles himself will be exalted."

D T>.  "I am in support of water boarding."
J C>.   "Blessed are the merciful for they will be shown mercy."

D T>.  "Part of the beauty of me is that I'm very rich."
J C>.   "Do not store up for yourself treasures on earth. But store up for yourself treasures in heaven.
For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."
"Truly, I tell you, it's is easier for a Camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich
man to enter the kingdom of heaven."

D T>.  "I've never asked for forgiveness, I just try to do better next time. When I drink that little wine
and eat that little cracker, I guess that's a form of asking for forgiveness."
J C>.   "This is my body given for you ; Do this in remembrance of me."

Donald Trump, when asked by a reporter to tell his favorite Biblical Scripture said, "That's personal"
My favorite Biblical Scripture is John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that he gave His only begotten son, that whosoever believe in Him should not perish but have everlasting life." That is really personal to me.

I would think that it is understood how the words and attitudes of Trump differ from those of Christ. After all, Jesus Christ got 'captured' and Trump does not like people who get 'captured!'

A Simpler Place and Time.

I grew up in the 1940's and 1950's or what I like to call the 'front-porch decades.' That's right, everybody had a front porch back then and neighbors often dropped by to sit-a-spell on the front porch where they'd swap stories and gossip about folks down the street who were sitting on their front porch.

In 1950, my father built his dream house, which was on a corner lot in upper Washington Park, East St. Louis, Illinois. A corner lot was a must for our family and that house had a nice front porch but do to a perma-stone wing wall, which did not permit a evening summer breeze, Dad decided to head to the back of the house where he built a car port. The car port was large enough to park two vehicles but nary a one was ever seen on that nice large concrete pad. Instead, we had a swing-glider and several lawn chairs...the car port became our afternoon and evening family sitting place.

Today the front porch has all but disappeared. New homes seldom incorporate front porch designs. On my evening walks, I never see anybody sitting on front porches. Fact of the matter, I don't see many people sitting outside in the front or the back of their homes. I suspect the porch and outside neighbor gatherings vanished about the time television and air conditioning arrived on the scene. What adult wants to sit outside, sweat and get bit by insects when they could be inside enjoying cooler air and mesmerized by 'The Walking Dead' on television?' And today's kids are much smarter than to run around playing 'Kick-The-Can' in hot-humid conditions when they could be in A/C sitting on their own 'can' and eating Pringles.

I learned a lot sitting on that outside car port and my grandparents porch. I discovered origins of different night sounds, I learned every neighbor guy's trade or employment circumstance. I heard family stories about folks and events gone-by. I don't guess there has ever been a time in my life that I shared more conversation with family than those decades of the '40's & '50's.

I sometimes wonder if the front porch sitting and backyard visiting returned if we'd become a less anxious, less stressed out people with a calmer and kinder disposition. It seems to me that spending more time in conversation with folks you know and folks who truly care for you serves one better than sitting in front of a television listening to a total stranger tell you how and what to believe.

With spring around the corner, instead of spotting that 'first' Robin, I'm going to note the date I spot the first porch sitter and the first boy riding his bike with his baseball glove strung onto the handlebar.
I cannot remember the last time I noted a hop-scotch chalk drawing on a sidewalk and I'll just bet none of my grandkids ever played 'Mother May I.'

I must stop now and take the garbage can and recycle can to the front of the house for pick up today. It used to be we'd put those trash cans in the backyard alley but that alley-way disappeared about the same time as the front porch.

Part of The Game...Good or Bad

With the NFL Super Bowl fresh in our memory, the NCAA College Basketball Playoffs taking center stage and MLB waiting in the wings, sports fans are buzzing about yesterday, today and what tomorrow holds. Part of the fans' mindset is 'officiating.' Those game management guys and gals. The referees and umpires. Those folks who must 'make-the-call' and listen to the catcalls from the unreasonable spectator...The FANATIC.

As a sport performer in high school/college basketball and baseball and then a coach of the same sports for 39-years plus eleven years of high school and collegiate baseball umpiring, I've observed officiating from all sides. Like any activity or job responsibility, I note a wide range of ability levels in the officiating profession. Let me state up front that the best official/referees are those who go unnoticed during the contest.

Good officials have the following common denominators: They know the rules. They hustle and put themselves in position. They don't anticipate. They work well with the crew. They don't hesitate to confer with partners because they know the importance of 'getting it right' rather than 'being right'...and there is a difference.

As a baseball plate umpire, I established a wide-consistent strike zone and the ball-strike 'call' in the first inning was the 'same pitch call' in the ninth inning. I was determined not to squeeze the zone late in the game. Of the more than 200 pitch calls I'd make in a nine inning game, I expected not to miss more than six calls. The basketball official that ignores the time in the contest and focuses on simply 'making' calls is the best official.

As a pitcher, I never questioned the umpire's call beyond asking where a pitch was in his opinion. I knew that to be successful, I had to adjust to the umpire's strike zone. As a mentor, I told my basketball players that they were NEVER to question an officials 'call.' (I'd do that in their behalf if I thought appropriate.) Just as a baseball pitcher must adjust to the strike zone, the basketball, football player needs to adjust to game referees' tendencies.

I believe too much focus on game officiating tends to give athletes excuse-crutches. Personally, I never played the game that way, I never parented that way and I never coached that way.  My philosophy was simple: Whatever the conditions or circumstances, I had to take my effort and performance to a level, which overcomes those negatives. It's the only thing in my control.

Finally, I believe that over the years, rules changes and sport officiating has given greater protection to offense performance success. Perhaps the high school basketball game officiating has also been influenced by officials working both college and high school and finding it difficult to embrace the physicality differences of players as it relates to game control and management.

Words That Should Cause Great Concern

This week, President Donald Trump issued the most frightening warning towards political opponents ever uttered by an American President. His scary words suggested violence would be targeted on fellow Americans who opposed him; these are words of a 'Mad Man.' >>The most un-American and non-Christian comments from the lips of a United States' President...

Trump said, "It would be very bad, very bad  if my supporters in the military, police and motorcycle bikers were provoked into getting tough."

What kind of mind refuses to 'see' the the subtle call to arms by a would be dictator? These are crazy words. This is the kind of rhetoric tossed about in Nazi Germany, Russia, North Korea and Cuba.

Trump followed up on Friday, March 15, stating, "White Nationalism is not a rising threat." Only a bigoted damn fool believes such a comment.

Our nation is moving ever so closer to violence in our streets. When will Americans wake up? Perhaps our only concern is that the pending Civil War will not start during Super Bowl week or the new season of 'The Bachelor.'

Real Disappointment

I feel compelled to offer one of those acknowledgement statements before expressing today's 'rant.'
So, here it is: I am aware that cynicism grows as we age. Also, I confess that aging will dirty and clog our social-filter. I offer myself as living proof!

I could never have imagined that in my life's journey, which began in 1939, I would witness that which I observe in this America.

I see a President who boasts of wealth, business brilliance, intellectual smartness and his ability to do ALL THINGS better than anybody else. Yet, the man has had four businesses file for bankruptcy, refuses to show tax returns or his high school and academic records. I also note that after listening to the man brag about his sexual assaults on women and even after paying hush monies to a stripper and Playboy Bunny (not to disclose sexual affairs) he was elected President and continues to have Evangelicals' support, while my own church is up in arms about homosexuals and lesbians infiltrating the church.

This same President calls out NFL players' who protest a social concern by kneeling during the National Anthem as, "Sons-a-bitches who should be fired by owners." Yet, the President does not call out the owner of the NFL Super Bowl Champs for his arrest at a Spa, which offered sexual favors to patrons. The leader of these United States openly sides with foreign dictators over America's own FBI and CIA intelligence organizations. He also speaks in supportive terms about a convicted felon because that felon would not cooperate with prosecutors investigating Russia's meddling in our election. Reminds me of scenes from the movie, 'The Godfather."

I scratch my head reading reports of college coaches and professional athletes making more money than medical doctors and surgeons. I find myself wondering what next in this self-interest, narcissistic  and self-entitlement society? I don't wonder long as I learn that over 750 families contacted an individual who would falsify college entrance documents and bribe universities to accept students with less than qualifying credentials, all the while hardworking/honest high school students are denied admission.

Whereas I may be cynical and lacking in a social filter, I do not have my head buried in denial. My political leaders, my church leaders and my government fails in their respective responsibilities to hold a moral leadership authority but instead fall prey to that old adage, "Money Talks, bull S*#t Walks."

A Female Eddie Haskell ?

She is the cutest seven year old con artist, I've ever observed. Who is 'she?' She is Ashlyn Brooke, the youngest child of our daughter, Dawn and husband, Shawn. (That's right, you should've been at that wedding>>> 'Do you Dawn take Shawn....and Do you Shawn take Dawn.') Anyway, it's fair to say Dawn and Shawn are compatible to the tune of SEVEN kids. I need not tell you how six older siblings along with parents and extended family can 'spoil' this last of fifteen grandkids. How spoiled is Ashlyn? Read on...

Ashlyn is a pretty blond-headed second-grader with a coy, pouty personality who often times will test to see how hard you'll attempt to win her attention.  Suffice to say, everybody has their own parenting game plan and part of daughter Dawn's plan is the 'Time Out Tool.' I'm not trashing Dawn's parenting plan, I'm just saying,  it ain't my method of negotiating the parenting maze. Whereas, I'd tell a child once what I expect  and perhaps repeat it a second time just in case there was a bad connection the first time, thereafter if we failed to have lift-off, I'd whack the kid on the butt to create incentive. It always worked. Okay, I've made the point!

At a toddler stage, Ashlyn was given her first  'Time Out.' After 'time out' was explained and ordered for Ashlyn, she asked, "Mother, can we talk about this?" When that fell on deaf ears, Ashlyn said to her Mother, "Mommy, you are so pretty." Some of this stuff started 'sticking!'

Okay, fast forward to current second-grade status. Ashlyn has discovered the school nurse's office and  it's great potential to get one out of the classroom. Of course, the nurse is savvy and called Mother  Dawn suggesting that they enter into a parent-school coordinating plan and tell Ashlyn she could bring one cough drop each day, give it to the nurse upon arriving in the morning and then during the day should Ashlyn's throat feel sore, she can go to the nurse's office and get the cough drop. That seems to be working out very well...for Ashlyn because she's now up to three cough drops a day. Recently, the school nurse shared with Mother Dawn that on a recent trip to the nurse's station, Ashlyn taught another child 'how to gargle.' I'm thinking by the end of the school year, Ashlyn may be a paid nurse's aide.

Those readers old enough will remember the television comedy,'Leave It To Beaver.' You will also readily recall the antics of 'Eddie Haskell.' WELL, welcome to the female version, Ashlyn!

Makes Me Sad

I commented yesterday about the recent conference meeting of the United Methodist Church and its denouncing of homosexuality and drawing lines of Church-participation for those in such relationships.

The next time my Methodist leadership convenes, I would hope they'd give attention to some important matters that 'really threaten' God's people. That would be the highjacking of my United Methodist Church as played out in the endorsement and support of our leadership in the political arena. Make no mistake this divisive, hateful leader has built a strong support from a sick-narrow minded segment of our society or worse.

Evangelical church leadership remains silent as its 'flock' accepts the following comments and acions from our President:
 1. I could shoot somebody in the middle of 5th Ave and not loose voters.
 2. Putin was pretty convincing in his denial of Russia's election interference; I don't know why I  would not believe him.
 3. I don't believe that the Crown Prince of Saudia Arabia ordered the killing of Jamal Khashoggi; the Prince was strong in his denial.
 4. I don't know how it would have been to Kim Jong Un's advantage  to have Otto Warmbier tortured and die. He strongly denied knowing anything and I'll take him at his word. (When it was to Trump's   advantage to parade Otto's parents in front of the State of the Union Address and talk tough to Un,       Trump did that. And now since Trump and Un are buddies, he makes this disgusting remark.)
 5. China is more honorable than Democrats (Whatever happened to USA motto: 'Politics stops at the water's edge.')?
 6. Putin is a better leader than Obama
 7. I have reliable evidence Obama was NOT born in America
 8. Some White Nationalist are 'good people.'
9.The Soviet Union had a right to invade Afghanistan because terrorist were going into Russia. Not True. This statement is siding against Reagan's administration and the United States government.
10. I'm the least racist person you know.
11. I have a great memory. I am like very smart. A stable genius. (Show the grades and test scores from high school and college)
12. All women in The Apprentice flirted with me...
13. Hillary can't satisfy her husband why does she think she can satisfy America
14. I will build a Great Wall and Mexico will pay for it.
15. There is nobody bigger or better On the military as I am.

These above ignorant comments made by Donald Trump  are not only ignored by my Evangelical Methodist but embraced by the same. I said at the beginning, it's personal with me. My Methodist Church has been high jacked by a hateful far right-wing posing as Evangelicals. It's time my Church leaders denounce them!

Readers: It is proven that a majority of Christian Evangelicals voted for this man and continue to  support a leader of divisive-hatred and racism. I invite some Evangelical or better yet a United Methodist Clergy to explain how homosexuality is more of a threat to our nation's moral values than this shameful leader. Don't tell me that Hillary was bad choice due to the abortion issue; that's poppycock and if you don't believe that your a gullible fool. Roe v. Wade is used as a political ploy by the GOP.

I remember when the Gideon's no longer used my father's Collinsville restaurant because the  establishment sold alcohol. How hypocritical. Those same holier-than-thou people filled their autos at convenient stores that sold alcohol and patronized grocery stores and entertainment venues that   sold alcohol. Those folks don't 'Cling to An Old Rugged Cross' but instead they cling to 'Phony show rather than a risky Go.'

Okay, I'm headed to the closet to ask forgiveness for my judging. I'm fearful what my United Methodist brothers and sisters' might be doing.
