Show Me The Money

The expression is crude and perhaps offensive; nevertheless, the statement communicates succinctly and accurately the fundamental premise: "Money talks; bullshit walks!" Anonymous

Please consider the following: The Illinois 'lawmakers' are considering passage of two pieces of legislation while our federal government is prepared to kick another proposed 'bill' to the curb. If enacted into law, all State of Illinois college campuses will be smoke free but NOT gun-free! For a number of years all public buildings and even privately owned businesses are smoke-free 'inside.' However, those smokers that we have become accustom to seeing puffing on cigarettes standing at the corner of a work-building-place must now do without their 'fix' because the entire campus property will be off-limits for smoking. Of course, if our nation was really capable of eliminating those evil cigarettes, our economy would be in big trouble losing the sales tax!  Illinois receives approximately $350 million annually in cigarette sales tax, which is 'matched' by a federal grant bringing the yearly 'take' to $700 million; we best be careful the manner in which, we treat our benevolent smokers.

Many states have the 'concealed and carry' gun law and now Illinois embraces the debate. This law allows residence to carry concealed lethal weapons while our federal government lawmakers refuse to tackle semi-automatic mass-murdering weapons on our streets and in the hands of anybody. It would appear that the near future we will cultivate a college campus environment free of second-hand smoke but subject toa greater risk of random and impromptu shootings; of course, 'guns don't kill people; people kill people.' Then again, autos don't kill, careless drivers kill, cell phones don't kill but distracted driver's kill and 32 oz sugar drinks don't kill people but glutinous consumption kills people.

The real driving force behind laws enacted and laws scrubbed is found in that 'crude' premise statement at the top."Yhe best things in life are free but you can giv'em to the birds and bees, I need money; that's what I need." Barrett Sterong

I have been forthcoming in acknowledging my Democrat political persuasion. This does not suggest that I am always proud to be a Democrat. Regarding their lack of piss and vinegar to square-off fight with the NRA concerning gun-control; Democrats are hypocritical and weak in conviction.

The horrific visual picture of 20 first-grade babies' bodies riddled with high powered bullets has faded from our moral conscientiousness and society's passion to see gun-control laws enacted wanes with the March Madness college basketball tourney and planning summer vacations; after all life goes on...well, for some it goes on!! Shame on our self-absorption and sell-out.
