I Mean What I Say Until I Say Differently

It is interesting  to note how 'stated' perspectives change over time. Take the gun control issue. Often the conservative argument clings to the notion that it's not a 'too many guns' problem but a mental health problem. In the 1980's when a lot of right wing West Coast folks thought psychiatry was tied to communism, President Jimmy Carter, one month before he lost a second election bid, signed a Mental Health System Act extension. Ronald Reagan soundly defeated Carter and soon thereafter Reagan blocked funds to State Mental Hospitals and they began closing across the nation.

Funny how thinking changes.

The GOP for several years championed itself as the law and order party. They pushed legislation to give financial support to the rural growth industry of 'prison-building' and the right-wingers were well known as the law and order party. They were strong supporters and defenders of the brotherhood of law enforcement folks ie, the CIA, FBI and the local level police. I mean those Republicans' fought hard for our law enforcement folks. Today, we see prisons closing across the nation and a Republican Party supporting a wholesale attack on the CIA and FBI that is unprecedented.

Funny how thinking changes.

Finally, I notice the leader of this pack wants transparency in the Department of Justice but refuses to allow transparency regarding his Federal Tax Filings or allow an investigation to come to a closure without his manipulation.

Funny how some thinking is not so funny.
