We have heard President Trump on numerous occasions point a blame-finger at his predecessor, Barack Obama. Obama is Trump's go-to fall guy. Actually, I blame Obama, also! Obama is indirectly responsible for Donald Trump being elected President. Let me explain:
The short answer is Trump's election to the Presidency is a 'white backlash' to the 'black man's Presidency.' Obama becoming President was 'kicking-the-sleeping-dog.' White Anglo-Saxon Protestant Americans have for 241-years demonstrated a deep intolerance for people of color and certain religious immigrants. Let me freshen your memory: Native Americans, African-Americans, Asian-Americans, Hispanics and Latinos. Non-Protestant groups i.e., Irish, Poles, Italians, Jews and Arabs have all experienced prejudiced bigotry in this self-proclaimed Christian nation. Make no mistake, America continues to demonstrate a greater inclination for racism and bigotry than the teachings of Jesus Christ.
As the two-term Obama Presidency was winding towards close-sure, Trump cultivated the fertile angry ground and energized the somewhat dormant prejudices, bigotry and racism. Now, please hear me...I understand that not everybody who voted for Trump is a bigot or racist. That said, if you are one who voted for the man for other reasons but believes it was not racism that put Trump in the Oval Office then you're simply in a state of denial.
There is one truism of our otherwise great nation...it is a nation that has been historically governed by 'white men' who view themselves as omnipotent and privileged.
