Thumbing through some Biblical scriptures recently, I came across Matthew 24:6, which speaks about 'wars and rumors of wars' that will always be a reality. Of course, we are told not to fret because the end will not be contrived by man. I did a bit of research and discovered that the United States has been involved in wars or 'conflicts' 80-times in its history and 40-times since World War II. That's a lot of fighting. The most disturbing number is 1.1 million Americans who have been killed in all those wars.
Afterward the thought occurred to me that nations world wide would be smart to agree on new rules of engaging in wars. The United Nations should call together all nations and hammer out guidelines on how wars are engaged. My suggestion would serve all countries very well. Let's suppose we agree to fight wars with men and women sixty-five years old and older. Now before you dismiss this idea as silly, hear me out.
(1) Old folks like to travel. Drafting old timers 65+ would be appealing to the venturous soul who wishes to travel abroad. (2) I understand that oldsters might not have good 'aim sight' but it would be relative in so far as we consider 'old enemies' won't be moving fast...slow moving targets. (3) All governments would reduce retirement costs, nursing home costs, health insurance costs while freeing up all those handicap parking spaces reserved for senior citizens at the local malls. (4) Not sure about other nations but think of the money the USA would save on social security.
Speaking of an 'Old-Folks War Plan' can you imagine the reduced waiting time at doctors' offices, faster moving traffic, not to mention faster moving checkout lanes at super markets when standing behind that elderly lady rummaging around in the bottom of her purse 'for exact change!'
PS. Okay, you're on to me...I jest. However, I do believe we'd be involved in fewer wars if Mothers and grandmothers were leaders ALL NATIONS...
