Moving Towards Calamity?

Walking my neighborhood or driving about the country side, I often notice that sign: 'Pray For Our Nation.' I'm sure you also have noticed. It appears to me that this plea message is most urgent these days considering the growing divisiveness amongst our people.

The healthy open debates around differing opinions and political persuasions has long 'left the station' of civil discussion as it is reduced to name calling, threats and a general tone of ugly intolerance. As one peruses the Facebook comments one readily becomes aware of a deep hatred in our country. In recent weeks, I've noted photos of people with high powered military style weapons with such captions as, 'Just give us the word, Mr. President.'

The worst Angels within us all has been awakened. That 'sleeping dog' of racial and religious intolerance has been kicked. Trust in our governing institutions and the free press has been crippled by constant attacks. Currently, we are a nation of very suspicious and angry people teetering on the precipice of physical confrontation with anyone who opposes our views. Given the ease of weapon procurement, I fear for our countrymen, indeed we should 'Pray For Our Nation.'
