Return To Sender

I recently made a daily-routine change for reasons of my mental well-being. Let me explain: Back in those 'working days,' I had no idea when our mail was delivered. Since retirement, I'm around the house mostly and consequently I hear the dog bark. Yodie barks at Larry the mailman every day between 10:15am to 1030am. After a brief conversation with Larry about the weather, I retrieve our mail. Naturally, I am now hooked or shall I say 'conditioned' to examine the mail.

I've noticed that over the years our mailings have changed drastically. We once got exciting offers of travel and home improvement items and terrific investment possibilities. These days the mail is all about heath and aging. I can recite a number of hearing aid products as well as natural medicines for arthritis. I'm reminded of a nearby bus departure time on Tuesday's to a central, Illinois gambling casino and the gift of $5.00 to get me started. Speaking of buses, I receive travel information every fall for a New England fall colors bus trip. I wonder about the 'pee stops' frequency. I need to ask.

I know all the perks of every senior living center in Decatur and the funeral service and internment costs of all mortuaries in Macon, Morgan and Madison counties.

I continue to send my annual dues to the Masonic Order, the Scottish Rites Temple and Shriner's but I never attend meetings or go on trips with my Masonic brothers. To be honest, I joined those organizations, as did my two sibling-brothers, to please our father who insisted we do so. It's true   those organizations do good work and that's why I support financially. I just never cared much for  Cub Scouts and Boy Scout meetings therefore why would I think it would be more fun with old guys?

Regarding our mail? Folks, if I wrote a letter a day using our return (Charity) label address-stickers, I would have to live to be 101...that's twenty-two more years years.

Oh, that routine change?...I now take my walk between 10am and 11am.
