The Stakes Are Too High

I have maintained since the inception of 24/7 television-cable news programming that it is bad for American consumption. More is not better. The fact that 'negative' in the form of salaciousness sells,  also tends to fester in a society's mind resulting in feelings of anger or doom and gloom.

In recent months during this election campaign, we have watched over-the-top cable news coverage factor into the hostile and divisive American climate. News networks have followed Donald Trump's campaign-comments non-stop. Those networks anticipated Trump would implode early in the process but he did not. Along this journey, Trump received much more free press than other candidates.

All this coverage becomes a television ratings bonanza because it plugs into the ambulance chasing mentality of the less than intelligent segment of our people. Some folks get their jollies at dog fights, ultimate fighting and professional wrestling. They are hoping for blood.

American politics should be better than this.
